FOXmas has been cancelled for 2009

Fellow Oasis Residents and visitors,

It is with a great sadness that I must inform you that due to the Something Awful write up and their representation of what furries are, the hotel has breached our contract and will not let us rent function space at their hotel. Unfortunately, at this late date, I am unable to find any available convention space that fits with our needs and is available. That being said, I must now announce that there will be no FOXMAS party that is open to the furry public in 2009. I have refunded all registration fees collected. Please accept that and my wholehearted apology. I am very sorry and deeply saddened by this turn of events.

On a more positive note, there will be a private party, but unfortunately due to space restrictions, it must be invite only and limited to about 30 furs. Also there are several hotels interested in hosting us in 2010 even with the controversy that has ensued this month. So please look for future announcements about FOXMAS 2010 and please consider coming to that event.

Holy crap we just got flamed by a Dragoneer o.O

I woke up today to the greeting of sirens going off.  Apparently dragoneer found our website and got all angry about our slogan “The most important furry event in history” and commented on it in his Twitter. Later he made a post on his FA journal, somewhat toned-down, but still hitting the finer points of his argument. This opened the flood-gates on us, skyrocketing our site hit-count. On the positive side, we know our site can now most-likely withstand a fairly severe DDOS attack. On the negative side, the furs coming to the site, already seeded with the notion that FOXmas is going to be an orgy-con, crashed by FOX News, and filled with AIDS, they read the tongue-and-cheek main page as being literal, and confirmed their pre-conceived notion that FOXmas will require hazmat biohazard crews to clean up afterward.
This is completely false, as one can see plainly from the FAQ page. I admit that I haven’t done a good job at emphasizing that FOXmas will NOT be an orgy-con, and so we’re doing some rework of the site to fix that, and to shift the spotlight from “Adult” to “Furry convention”.
It will not change how the con is to be run – merely how we are presenting it. THERE WILL BE NO NUDITY OR SEX IN CONVENTION SPACES. This has always been our position. HOWEVER, FOXmas will still be adults-only, will have some adult programming, will not discriminate against furs for public displays of affection (within reason) and will not require artists to censor their materials.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

The registration form is now plugged-in and working. We tested it late last night, and everything appears to be in order. Right now, our only accepted methods of payment are via Paypal and by snail-mail cheque. We are currently looking into getting some alternative methods "hooked up" (such as debit, credit, etc), but that involves some assistance from the Morphicon staff... what I mean to say is, it might not happen in time, so if you already have Paypal, I recommend using it.

In the meantime, a limit-time offer, the first 5 members to sign up will receive prizes at the convention door, and the first 50 will receive raffle tickets to be in the running for our grand prize, so pre-reg today!

www.foxmas.com mk3 site is up!

Finally I've managed to get a respectable-looking HTML/CSS website up for FOXmas. Hope you guys like it. Finally we have a good place to put all of the information attendees are going to want to look up prior to coming, like directions, hotel information, convention schedule, links to our LJ blog etc.

There's still a lot of sections that aren't "plugged in" like Registration, Volunteering, Community... I am hoping that these will come online within the next couple of days.

www.foxmas.com mk2 site is up!

Today I put up a placeholder site for www.foxmas.com that contains basically a bunch of hotel and FAQ information just so that people can (hopefully) start making plans around FOXmas as a convention that they would like to attend. I am hoping to get the full HTML / CSS site up by October 1 so that people can start registering, booking rooms, etc. It would also be nice to have a bunch of the other necessities ready, like the Code of Conduct, some events on the convention schedule, and stuff like that.

In the meantime, please be patient. It is a little weird that we have a news page before the full site is up, but I wanted someplace to announce that the full site is up! ;) Anyway, I'll keep you all posted!
